The ARAK FAKRA distillery was founded in the early eighteenth century in Kfardebian by a noble and traditional Lebanese family of Mount Lebanon whose armorial bearings are still displayed to the present day in the Vatican. Today, this family’s descendants perpetuate the ancestral traditions by producing with the same method and according to the same formula that rare arak bearing the name of ARAK FAKRA KENZ.
Already long before our era, the Romans had chosen this area to raise temples devoted to their divinities among which that of Venus and monuments honoring emperor Claudius whose name was associated with the great autochthonous god Baalgalassos.
The shadow of these temples’ ruins still floats over the cellars where ARAK FAKRA KENZ comes to maturity.
Kfardebian valley, land of springs, is a village located in the very heart of Mount Lebanon, varying in altitude from 1300 to 2826 m. With its green mountainsides, enormous rocky blocks, woodlands of oak, walnut, pine, streams of fresh and limpid water and most of all vineyards, it is the most picturesque area in Lebanon.
ARAK FAKRA KENZ has its own vineyards supplying it with all the grapes it needs, thus allowing the vines to come to full maturity.
ARAK FAKRA KENZ is an exceptional arak with a rich bouquet. Its secret lies in the choice of Lebanese vines “Merwah” and the anise coming exclusively from “Hina”. The care, the treatment of the vine and the grape harvest are thoroughly and constantly controlled in order to guarantee the superior quality of ARAK FAKRA KENZ. The grapes are gathered manually in September, scraped and delicately pressed to extract the best juice out of the “Merwah”. The joyful combination of soil, climate and sunlight has a major effect on the aroma.
The distillation is carried out in three stages by eliminating the heads and tails of distillation to create a sublime arak at 60º GL. The clay of ‘Beit Chabab’ of which the jars are made and the complicity of time allow ARAK FAKRA KENZ to attain that unmatched roundness. This full maturity and mellowness give it an exceptional personality with such a distinctive aroma.
FAKRA has thus enriched and completed its vast line of products with the new ARAK FAKRA KENZ. As for this unique bottle in the shape of a column, it was especially conceived as a tribute to the millenary Temples of Fakra.
